Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has raised concerns about the possibility of a full-scale war between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead. In an interview with Sky News, Asif warned that the world should be “worried” about the prospect of a conflict between two nuclear-armed nations. As tensions rise over the attack, Asif emphasized Pakistan’s military readiness and stated that any further escalation could lead to dire consequences.

Pakistan’s Response to India’s Actions

Asif’s remarks come amid heightened diplomatic tensions following the deadly attack in Pahalgam. The Pakistani defence minister emphasized that while Pakistan was prepared for any scenario, its response would be proportional to any action taken by India. He stated, “We will measure our response to whatever is initiated by India. If there is an all-out attack, then obviously there will be an all-out war.” However, Asif expressed hope that negotiations could de-escalate the situation before things spiral out of control.

Asif also alluded to the potential risks of a conflict between two nuclear powers, adding, “The clash between two nuclear powers is always worrisome.” His comments highlight the global concern about the escalating tensions in the region, as the consequences of a full-scale war could be catastrophic.

Accusations Against India and Terrorism Allegations

In addition to discussing the possibility of war, Asif accused India of staging the attack, claiming that it was an orchestrated move to create a crisis in the region. “The reaction from Delhi was not surprising to us. We could make out that this whole thing was staged to create some sort of a crisis,” Asif stated. He further added that his government categorically condemned terrorism in all its forms, without reservation. Despite his condemnation, Asif reiterated his belief that India was responsible for creating these situations.

Asif’s controversial comments come in the wake of India’s response to the Pahalgam attack, which included diplomatic measures such as suspending the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme for Pakistani nationals and halting the Indus Waters Treaty. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also vowed to bring those responsible for the attack to justice, asserting that the time had come to eliminate terrorism in the region.

The international community now watches closely as both nations navigate these tense developments.
