Pakistan skipper Babar Azam attributed their shocking loss to the USA on Thursday to the team’s mindset when facing opponents perceived as smaller. The hosts scripted their biggest win by defeating the former T20 World Cup champions in a match that extended to a Super Over, with Pakistan unable to chase down 19 runs needed for victory.
Reflecting on the defeat, Babar Azam acknowledged a potential tendency to relax against smaller teams, leading to a failure in executing plans.
“While our preparation is always thorough, there’s a mindset issue when facing teams like this. We tend to relax a bit and take things lightly. If you don’t execute your plans, any team can beat you,” said Babar Azam.
Admitting shortcomings in all departments, Babar Azam emphasized the need for improvement, especially in batting during the middle overs and at the death.
“I feel we’re not performing well in all three departments: fielding, bowling, and batting. We need to capitalize better in the middle and death overs,” Babar Azam remarked.
With Pakistan facing India next in New York on June 9, the pressure mounts for a swift turnaround in performance.
