Islamabad [Pakistan], October 16 (ANI): The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have agreed on constitutional amendments after their meeting in Karachi, ARY News reported.

JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari announced the agreement between the two parties on constitutional amendments while addressing a joint press conference in Karachi.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said JUI-F and PPP agreed on the draft of constitutional amendments and praised Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for the consensus.

He further said, “I have met Bilawal Bhutto and will meet Nawaz Sharif tomorrow (Wednesday).”

He has rejected the Pakistan government’s initial proposed constitutional amendments, calling them unacceptable, ARY News reported. He emphasised the need for non-controversial constitutional amendments, saying that Pakistan, its constitution, and its parliament need a united voice.

During the joint press conference, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari announced that Maulana Fazlur Rehman will be meeting with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday, ARY News reported.

He said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will also be invited to support the draft finalised by the JUI-F and PPP.

He said, “We will try to include PML-N in this consensus,” Bhutto Zardari said, emphasising that the agreement between PPP and JUI-F will serve as the foundation for future negotiations.

Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari stressed that the aim is to resolve public issues instead of focusing on individual interests or timing, according to ARY News report.

Expressing hope for all political to prioritise national interests over personal agendas, he said, “Our objective is to achieve non-controversial constitutional reforms.”

Pakistan’s federal government has decided to get the 26th constitutional amendment passed by the Senate of Pakistan first as the upper house session is likely to be held on October 17.

Pakistan’s National Assembly (NA) session is set to be held on October 18 for the passage of the proposed constitutional amendments. (ANI)
