In a critical development, approximately 2.43 lakh farmers in a district of Uttar Pradesh are at risk of being excluded from the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme. The district administration has issued urgent instructions mandating all farmers to generate their Farmer ID without fail. Farmers who fail to comply with this directive will not be eligible for the next installment of the scheme’s benefits.
To expedite the process, the district magistrate has directed the formation of 180 teams tasked with conducting registration camps across villages. These teams, comprising personnel from various departments such as revenue, agriculture, and local panchayat assistants, will visit rural areas daily to assist farmers with their registrations. Alongside Farmer Registry creation, these camps will also facilitate e-KYC updates for those farmers who have not completed the process.
The district currently has 245,872 farmers registered under the PM-Kisan scheme. However, only 2,393 have successfully generated their Farmer ID so far. The administration aims to prepare a comprehensive Farmer Registry to issue Farmer Cards. This initiative is designed to streamline the process of verifying beneficiaries, planning agricultural schemes, and facilitating the marketing of agricultural products. Additionally, the linked Aadhaar registry will ensure smoother access to various welfare schemes provided by the government.
Initially, the deadline for completing the Farmer Registry was set for December 31. However, due to the low number of registrations, the date has been extended to January 31. Farmers who fail to register by this deadline risk losing not only the PM-Kisan benefits but also access to other government schemes, including disaster relief and crop insurance programs.
To ease the process, farmers can register at village camps, common service centers, or via the government’s web portal and mobile app using their mobile numbers. The administration’s goal is to establish an Aadhaar-linked registry for all farmers in the district, enabling a transparent and efficient mechanism for distributing agricultural benefits. The initiative also aims to facilitate farmers’ access to crop loans, credit through the Kisan Credit Card, and infrastructure funds under agricultural development schemes. Additionally, it will streamline online registration for minimum support price (MSP) purchases.
The administration has emphasized that this registry will significantly benefit farmers by enhancing their access to agricultural loans, inputs, and services, while also ensuring timely and transparent delivery of government schemes aimed at their welfare.
