Oman has conveyed its regret and condemnation regarding the United Nations Security Council’s inability to pass a ceasefire resolution for the Gaza Strip, citing the repeated use of the veto.
In an official statement released by the Foreign Ministry, Oman called upon the international community and the Security Council to employ all available initiatives to promptly establish a ceasefire in the region. The statement urged the Council not to impede peace efforts and emphasized the urgent need for immediate action to halt the ongoing violence.
Additionally, Oman urged friendly nations to translate their verbal support for peace into tangible humanitarian efforts on the ground.
Russia also voiced criticism over the Security Council’s failure to reach an agreement. Vasily Nebenzia, Russia’s Ambassador to the UN, characterized the US veto as yet another dark chapter in the Security Council’s history.
Nebenzia accused the US of intentionally prolonging the conflict to allow Israel to pursue its alleged “inhumane plans” for Gaza. These plans, according to Nebenzia, involve displacing Palestinians from the territory and “cleansing” the enclave entirely.
Despite the bitter outcome of the vote, Nebenzia affirmed Russia’s steadfast commitment to pursuing peace in the region. He emphasized that Russia remains resolute in its efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and will not waver in its pursuit of a just and lasting resolution.
