Oman’s Foreign Ministry, in collaboration with relevant entities, unveiled details of the highly anticipated second edition of the Oman Golf Trophy 2024 during a press conference at the Royal Opera House, Muscat. Following the resounding success of its inaugural installment, which took place from 2022 to 2023 in Italy and Oman, this prestigious diplomatic initiative continues to serve as a beacon for promoting sports tourism and fostering international relations.
The forthcoming tournament is poised to attract a diverse array of local and international golf enthusiasts, further enhancing Oman’s reputation as a premier sports tourism destination. With eighty qualifying rounds scheduled across seven countries from April to October 2024, a staggering 7,400 participants are expected to vie for a coveted spot in the final showdown.
The grand finale of the Oman Golf Trophy 2024 will take place at Al Mouj Golf in December, featuring 140 players alongside esteemed guests. Notable economic and media figures from participating nations will converge in Muscat, lending a touch of prestige to the championship’s conclusion.
Undersecretary Almuslahi, commenting on the launch of the second edition, emphasized the initiative’s dual objectives of promoting Oman as a tourism destination and establishing connections with golf enthusiasts, including esteemed business leaders and high-net-worth individuals. He underscored the event’s potential to attract investors, tourists, and media attention, thereby showcasing Oman as an alluring destination for golf and other sports.
Undersecretary Al Rawas highlighted the historic significance of the Oman Golf Trophy as the first sports championship held abroad bearing the Sultanate’s name. He noted the expanded participation this year, with seven countries joining the qualifying rounds, a testament to Oman’s growing prominence in the global sports arena. Stressing the importance of supporting the tournament for its sustainability and development, he emphasized its role in nurturing Omani athletes to compete at the global level.
Moreover, Undersecretary Al Rawas expressed anticipation for organizing similar events in various sports, leveraging international partnerships and joint support from the public and private sectors. The Oman Golf Trophy promises an exciting journey for Omani players, with qualifying rounds set to take place in Italy, Austria, Germany, South Africa, India, France, and Japan. As players interact with their international counterparts, the tournament aims to create an atmosphere blending fun and challenge, epitomizing the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
