In a significant push against terrorism, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday launched a series of coordinated raids across Jammu and Kashmir, targeting suspected overground workers (OGWs) of various terrorist outfits. The large-scale operation spanned five districts and is part of an ongoing investigation into a larger terror conspiracy that authorities believe is being orchestrated to destabilize the region.
Multiple Districts Targeted in Sweep
The NIA, acting on intelligence inputs, conducted searches in Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian, Baramulla, and Kupwara. These districts have witnessed persistent security challenges in recent years due to increased militant activity and recruitment of local youth by terror groups.
Officials stated that the raids were aimed at disrupting the support infrastructure of terror organisations by targeting OGWs—individuals who provide logistical support, safe houses, and help with recruitment and communication for terrorists. The agency’s objective is to uncover deeper links, digital trails, and physical evidence that may point to a well-orchestrated terror plot involving multiple groups operating from within and outside India’s borders.
Part of Ongoing Terror Conspiracy Investigation
This latest round of searches is linked to a broader NIA case that seeks to dismantle the networks facilitating terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities have been closely monitoring the increasing influence of foreign-based handlers and their connection to local operatives.
The agency has previously identified a pattern of coordinated efforts by banned terror organisations to radicalize youth and reestablish sleeper cells across the Valley. With continued unrest in parts of South Kashmir and renewed attempts at infiltration along the Line of Control, the NIA’s operations aim to preempt any large-scale terror strikes by neutralizing support systems before they activate.
While no official details were immediately released about arrests or seizures made during the raids, sources indicated that digital devices, incriminating documents, and possible evidence related to terror financing have been recovered. These are now being examined for their relevance in the case.
The NIA’s actions underline the central government’s zero-tolerance approach to terrorism and its commitment to preventing any attempt to reignite violence in the sensitive region. With investigations continuing, more arrests or raids could follow as the agency pieces together the full scope of the alleged conspiracy.
