The Department of Biotechnology, operating under the Ministry of Science and Technology, has unveiled a groundbreaking interdisciplinary research programme in biosciences, aiming to elevate biotechnology research and education standards in India. The innovative initiative, dubbed as the i3c (ideate, immerse, innovate, collaborate) BRIC-RCB PhD programme in biosciences, is a collaborative effort involving BRIC (iBRIC), RCB, and ICGEB institutions.
The newly launched programme, with its official website hosted at rcb.res.in/i3c, marks a significant milestone in fostering excellence in biotechnology research within the country. While specific application dates and registration details are yet to be announced, the programme targets individuals holding a master’s degree in life sciences, graduates in medicine, and BTech/BE graduates in non-biological sciences.
According to information provided on the official website, the interdisciplinary PhD programme in biosciences will offer comprehensive learning opportunities encompassing life sciences and biotechnology. The curriculum will feature a blend of classroom lectures, online teaching modules, workshops, and practical training sessions on advanced technology platforms.
A notable component of the programme is a three-month immersion phase, backed by additional funding, which aims to immerse students in real-world challenges. This initiative is designed to cultivate a culture of innovation, collaboration, and entrepreneurship among budding scientists.
Upon completion of coursework and the immersion programme, scholars will have the opportunity to pursue doctoral research in their respective areas of interest. Under the guidance of experienced supervisors, students will undertake research projects at various institutions within BRIC (iBRICs), RCB, or ICGEB.
