Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu affirmed Israel’s dedication to a ceasefire proposal brokered by US President Joe Biden aimed at resolving the conflict in Gaza, stating that Israel fully supports the plan.
During a special session of the Knesset on Monday, convened by the opposition, Benjamin Netanyahu declared, “We are committed to the Israeli proposal that President Biden endorsed. Our position has not changed.” This statement marks the first official confirmation from Israel regarding its acceptance of the ceasefire initiative proposed by Biden in late May.
Netanyahu emphasized that Israel’s stance is unwavering until all hostages, numbering 120 individuals including both the living and deceased, are returned. Additionally, he emphasized the necessity of eliminating Hamas and ensuring the safe return of residents to southern and northern areas affected by the conflict.
The ongoing conflict escalated following a Hamas incursion on October 7, 2023, resulting in significant casualties and the abduction of approximately 250 individuals.
