Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe are set to arrive in the national capital on June 9 to partake in the ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Confirmation of Nepal’s PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s attendance came following a telephonic conversation with PM Modi on Wednesday evening, during which the invitation was extended by the Indian Prime Minister.
A senior official, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed, “During Wednesday evening’s telephonic conversation between the two leaders, the invitation was extended to the Nepali PM for attendance in the swearing-in ceremony. The Nepali Prime Minister also confirmed the attendance. A formal announcement will be made soon.”
The development follows PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s congratulatory message to PM Modi on Tuesday, acknowledging the electoral victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
Similarly, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe accepted PM Modi’s invitation during a phone call, extending felicitations on the NDA’s electoral success.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh is also scheduled to attend the swearing-in ceremony, departing from Dhaka on June 8 and returning on June 10.
PM Modi is slated to take the oath on June 9 after the BJP-led NDA secured a majority in the 18th Lok Sabha elections, with 293 seats. The event was rescheduled from June 8 to accommodate the change in dates.
