Neeraj Chopra has done wonders again. In the Diamond League meet held in Switzerland, Neeraj threw the javelin to a distance of 89.49 meters. With this, it is also his best throw of this season. With this throw, he finished at number two in the Diamond League. Let’s know the full details of the news:

Olympic silver medalist Neeraj Chopra was once again in action in the Swiss city of Lausanne. Neeraj participated in the Lausanne leg of the Diamond League and came very close to his personal best, but remained away from the top. He finished second in the event with a best throw of 89.49 meters. Neeraj first started with a throw of 82.10 meters, his second throw was 83.21 meters and in the third attempt he covered a distance of 83.13 meters. After three attempts, Neeraj was out of the top three. In the fourth attempt, Neeraj threw 82.34 meters, but he was still at number four. Then Neeraj’s fifth attempt was 85.58 meters, which brought him to number three. Even before his last throw, Neeraj was at number three. After this, German thrower Julian Weber did not throw the javelin far in his last attempt. Neeraj had to throw 87.08 meters away to come ahead of Weber and he completed this challenge. Neeraj put in all his strength in his last attempt and threw the javelin to a distance of 89.49 meters, which was also his season best. He won the silver medal in Paris with a throw of 89.45 meters and now with this season’s best, he finished second in the Diamond League.

Neeraj’s personal best is 89.94 meters. Talking about the rest of the throwers, Germany’s Julian Weber was at number three in this event. Weber started with a throw of 85.07 meters, threw a throw of 87.08 meters in the second attempt, which was also his best. Weber threw 83.13 meters in the third attempt, the fourth attempt was a foul, in the fifth attempt Weber threw the javelin up to 80.47 meters and in the last attempt he threw 82.33 meters. Grenada’s Anderson Peters was at number one position for most of the time in Lausanne Diamond League with a throw of 88.49 meters. Paris Olympics bronze medalist Peters threw 86.36 meters in the first attempt, his best 87.40 meters in the second attempt and 86.59 meters in the fourth attempt. In the fifth attempt he threw 82.22 meters and in the last attempt he made a meet record by throwing the javelin up to 90.61 meters and became the winner of the event.

What is Diamond League?

Diamond League is the biggest event in the world of athletics. There are a total of 15 meets in this competition in a year. In the first 14 meets athletes compete for points. Those finishing from number one to eight get points ranging from eight to one. The top six to ten athletes across all meets participate in the Diamond League finals in Brussels. The top six athletes in field events, the top eight in 100 to 800 metres and the top ten athletes in long distance races over 1500 metres make it to the finals. All the athletes who reach the finals compete in the finals in Brussels, where they are declared Diamond League champions if they win. Each champion receives a prize of thirty thousand US dollars along with the Diamond Trophy. The number two gets twelve thousand, three gets seven thousand, four gets four thousand, five gets two and a half thousand, six gets two thousand, seven gets fifteen hundred and eight gets one thousand US dollars. The top athlete in the meets gets ten thousand US dollars, number two gets six thousand, three gets three and a half thousand, four gets two thousand, five gets 1250, six gets one thousand, seven gets 750 and eight gets 500 US dollars.
