Highlights
  • Kolkata Knight Riders are also included in this list. In 2009, they lost 9 consecutive matches.
  • This record is shameful for any team, and no team would want to have this record in their name.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has witnessed some of the most thrilling and memorable matches over the years. However, amidst the highs and lows, there have been teams that have faced the brunt of defeat more often than others. Today, we take a look at the teams that have suffered the most consecutive losses in a single IPL season.

5. Mumbai Indians (2022)

Surprisingly, even the most decorated team in IPL history, Mumbai Indians, finds a place on this list. In 2022, their campaign took a nosedive, and they ended up losing a staggering 8 matches in a row.

4. Kolkata Knight Riders (2009)

Kolkata Knight Riders, known for their passionate fan base and aggressive brand of cricket, also feature in this list. They endured a torrid time in 2009, losing 9 consecutive matches.

3. Pune Warriors India (2013)

Pune Warriors India, a now-defunct franchise, holds the dubious distinction of being the first team to lose 9 consecutive matches. This unfortunate streak occurred across the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

2. Delhi Daredevils (2014-2015)

Delhi Daredevils, now known as Delhi Capitals, also experienced a forgettable period in 2014 and 2015, when they lost 11 matches in a row.

1. Pune Warriors India (2012-2013)

As mentioned earlier, Pune Warriors India holds the unwanted record of suffering the most consecutive losses in a single season. Their 11-match losing streak in 2012 and 2013 remains the worst in IPL history.

It’s important to note that no team aspires to be on this list, and these records serve as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of T20 cricket. While some teams have struggled with consistency, others have bounced back from such setbacks to achieve greater success.

In the case of Mumbai Indians, they showed remarkable resilience, coming back stronger in 2023 to reclaim the IPL title. This highlights the importance of learning from defeats and never giving up on the spirit of competition.
