New Board of Visitors Members

Newswise — The University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) is pleased to formally acknowledge the 11 newest members of its Board of Visitors, who have joined the board over the past two academic years. These distinguished individuals bring a diverse range of expertise spanning medicine, law, business, philanthropy, and public service. 

“We are fortunate to have attracted an exceptional roster of new board members, representing a unique range of backgrounds and professional expertise in finance, law, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and public policy to complement our current members,” said Mark T. Gladwin, MD, Dean of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Vice President for Medical Affairs, University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), and the John Z. and Akiko K. Bowers Distinguished Professor.

“Through their passion, innovation, and influential networks, our Board members play a valuable role in moving our philanthropy and major strategic initiatives forward in significant ways. We are deeply grateful for their support.”

Recently Elected Leaders (2023-2025)

Gary L. Attman, JD, is Co-Founder, President, and CEO of FutureCare Health and Management Corporation, a regional health care services company consistently recognized as one of Baltimore’s top employers. He joined the Board in September 2023 and previously served on the University System of Maryland Board of Regents. He holds a law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law and is a member of the Maryland Bar, a certified public accountant, and a licensed real estate broker.

David S. Clapp, EdD, is Chairman of the Rowland Land Company, a West Virginia-based natural resources firm, and President of Rowland Ventures in Baltimore, which invests in emerging companies in alternative energy, data management, and medical innovation. He joined the board in August 2024. He holds a doctorate in Teacher Development and Leadership from Johns Hopkins University and previously taught at the university and other schools before entering business.

John P. Coale, JD, joined the Board in August 2024, bringing a distinguished legal career focused on high-profile litigation against major corporations. A former partner at Coale Cooley Lietz, P.C. and Coale & Van Susteren, he played a leading role in the landmark Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement in 1998 and represented the government of India in its case against Union Carbide following the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy.

Lisa Lord Graham currently serves as Rare Disease Specialty Account Manager-Ophthalmology at Amgen, a multinational biotechnology company. With over 23 years of experience as an executive biopharmaceutical representative, she has held roles as Territory Manager at Wyeth and Specialty Manager in Psychiatry and Rheumatology at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. Ms. Graham joined the Board in February 2025. 

Dana B. Martin, philanthropist, investor, and business leader, joined the Board in October 2023.  He is the co-founder and CEO of Bridstowe Capital, an investment firm focused on technology and real estate. He also serves as CEO of Pascal Software, which develops leading anti-money laundering and financial services tools. Mr. Martin also serves on the March of Dimes National Board of Trustees and co-founded the March of Dimes Innovation Fund, which invests in early-stage companies focused on improving infant and maternal health outcomes. He is a director of the Robin B. Martin Foundation and previously led a venture-backed supply chain risk management company. He holds a BA in Economics and World Politics from Hamilton College.

Harry A. Oken, MD, is an internist and Adjunct Professor of Medicine at UMSOM who has trained generations of residents over nearly three decades. He serves as Medical Director for the Columbia Association and is the former Chair of Medicine at Howard County General Hospital. A wellness advocate, author, and host of the Finding Your Wellness podcast, Dr. Oken is a 1983 graduate of UMSOM and served as the 149th President of the University of Maryland Medical Alumni Association. He joined the Board as an elected member in May 2025 after serving as an ex-officio member since 2023.

Charlotte G. Philips, Executive Director and Private Banker at J.P. Morgan Private Bank in Baltimore, leads the firm’s Life Sciences Vertical for the mid-Atlantic region. She brings deep expertise in banking, finance, and investment strategy, having launched her career at the U.S. Department of the Treasury and held roles at the New York Stock Exchange, Wachovia Capital, and Wilmington Trust. She joined the Board in February 2025.

Linda Lee Robertson, JD, joined the Board in August 2024. A former assistant to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, she brings expertise in monetary policy, financial stability, and regulation. She previously held executive leadership roles in government and public affairs at Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Medicine. She holds a law degree from the University of Tulsa.

Tuanh Tonnu, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist based in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Elected as the 151st Drs. Ronald and Richard Taylor MAA President of the University of Maryland Medical Alumni Association in May 2025, she joined the Board as an ex-officio member in June 2025. Dr. Tonnu earned her medical degree from UMSOM in 1990 and completed her internship, residency, and fellowship at The George Washington University. 

Marcus L. Wang, JD, an attorney, entrepreneur, and international business executive, joined the Board in February 2024. He brings broad experience in health care and biotechnology leadership, including as Co-Founder and former CEO of ZytoGen Global Genetics Institute, which develops genetic screening technologies to support successful pregnancies. He also played a key role in leading Under Armour’s expansion into China. He holds an AB cum laude from Harvard University and a JD from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.

Robert L. Young III joined the Board in May 2025. He serves as President and Head of Marketing, Sales, and Client Service at Brown Capital Management Inc., where he has held leadership roles since 1999, following earlier positions at T. Rowe Price and Xerox. A Baltimore native with deep community ties and a long-standing commitment to education and economic development, Mr. Young also serves on the boards of the McDonogh School and East Baltimore Development Inc. Mr. Young earned a BA in economics from Boston University. He has a personal connection to UMSOM through his relative, Dr. Lois Young-Thomas, the School’s first African American female graduate. 

New Chair Welcomes Board Members

Last year, Michael I. Greenebaum was named Chair of the University of Maryland School of Medicine’s Board of Visitors. A longtime board member and President of Greenebaum Enterprises, he brings decades of leadership in real estate, venture investment, and philanthropy. He also serves on the board of the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center, named in honor of his parents and supported through his family’s enduring commitment to advancing cancer research and care. 

“I am honored to lead such an incredible group of individuals who deeply care about improving the human condition through the advancement of science and healthcare,” Mr. Greenebaum said. “Their passion, along with their commitment to UMSOM, is extraordinary, and will benefit Marylanders and beyond for generations to come.”
