A shocking case emerged in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur as an MBBS student was detained for appearing as a proxy candidate in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) medical entrance exam. The incident occurred at the Master Adityendra School examination center under the Mathura Gate police station area.
Abhishek Gupta, a government college student, was found impersonating NEET aspirant Rahul Gurjar during the exam. Preliminary investigations revealed Gupta’s involvement in a racket orchestrated by his collegemate Ravi Meena. Meena allegedly took a sum of ₹10 lakh from Gurjar in exchange for arranging the proxy candidate.
Upon suspicion, the invigilator handed Gupta over to the police, leading to the detention of five others associated with the racket. The accomplices were identified as Amit, Dayaram, and Suraj Singh. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Aklesh Kumar stated that Gupta’s associates were waiting in a car outside the examination center.
Meanwhile, another NEET exam center in Sawai Madhopur faced allegations of incorrect distribution of question papers. Candidates reported receiving question papers in a language different from their chosen medium, leading to protests from candidates and their parents. Allegations were made against the police of resorting to violence against protesting parents.
In response, the National Testing Agency (NTA) acknowledged the incident and assured proactive measures to uphold fairness and equal opportunity for all candidates. Sadhna Parashar, Senior Director at NTA, stated that approximately 120 affected candidates would have their exams conducted separately to ensure their academic aspirations are not compromised.
The investigation into the NEET impersonation case in Bharatpur continues, with authorities assuring further action against the accused as per the law.
