A devastating fire broke out today (Thursday, May 23) due to a boiler explosion at a chemicals factory in the MIDC area of Dombivli, Thane district, Maharashtra, injuring at least six workers. The blast at Amudan Chemical Company was heard from a kilometre away, causing significant damage to nearby structures.
Eyewitnesses described the explosion’s impact, noting that glass windows in adjacent buildings cracked and many houses in the vicinity sustained damage. The injured workers were immediately rushed to a local hospital for treatment, as confirmed by a civic official.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Devendra Fadnavis, addressed the incident on the microblogging site X (formerly Twitter). He described the boiler explosion as tragic and confirmed the suspension of eight individuals.
“Arrangements have been made to treat the injured, and more ambulances have been prepared. I have spoken with the Collector, who is en route to the site. Teams from NDRF, TDRF, and the fire brigade have been deployed,” Fadnavis stated.
Efforts are ongoing to rescue additional individuals who may be trapped inside the factory. “We are waiting for more people to be rescued. The workers on the day shift were inside the factory when the explosion occurred. It is not known how many people are stuck inside,” a doctor informed NDTV.
The situation remains critical as emergency teams work tirelessly to manage the aftermath of the explosion and ensure the safety of all affected.
