In a recent development in Manipur, BJP MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh has raised serious concerns about the ongoing violence in the state, pointing to the apparent ineffectiveness of central forces deployed to restore peace. Rajkumar Imo Singh has called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah to urgently address the situation, which has seen fresh outbreaks of violence in West Imphal.
Rajkumar Imo Singh’s criticism comes in the wake of continued unrest despite the deployment of approximately 60,000 central forces across Manipur. In a letter addressed to Shah, Rajkumar Imo Singh expressed frustration over the lack of progress in stabilizing the region. He highlighted that the central forces, who were expected to quell the violence, have seemingly failed in their mission. Rajkumar Imo Singh suggested that if these forces are unable to effectively contribute to restoring peace, it may be more prudent to withdraw them and transfer security responsibilities to the state government.
“The presence of around 60,000 central forces in Manipur seems to be failing to restore peace,” Rajkumar Imo Singh stated in his letter. “If these forces are mere mute spectators, it is better to remove them and hand over security charges to the state government under the Chief Minister.” Rajkumar Imo Singh’s comments underscore a growing impatience with the central forces’ handling of the situation, which has persisted for over 15 months.
Rajkumar Imo Singh further criticized the central forces for their perceived inability to address violence carried out by illegal armed militants. He proposed that the unified command should be transferred to the state government, giving the Chief Minister the authority to implement necessary measures to restore order. Rajkumar Imo Singh argued that local governance could be more effective in dealing with the specific challenges and underlying issues contributing to the ongoing conflict.
While acknowledging the removal of some uncooperative units, Rajkumar Imo Singh maintained that if the central forces continue to be ineffective, the state forces should be given the opportunity to manage the situation. He emphasized the importance of local governance in security matters to achieve long-term peace and address the root causes of the conflict.
Rajkumar Imo Singh’s appeal reflects the broader concerns about the effectiveness of central interventions in regional conflicts and highlights the need for a reassessment of strategies to address persistent unrest. His call for a shift in approach aims to bring about a more localized and potentially more effective response to the violence that has plagued Manipur.
