Pune (Maharashtra) [India], July 1 (ANI): A monsoon outing turned tragic after a 38-year-old man, Swapnil Dhawade, who went missing after diving into a water body in Tahmini Ghat, Western Ghats in Maharashtra, was found dead in Mangaon in Raigad district, police said.

Dhawade, a retired army personnel from Maharashtra’s Pimpri Chinchwad, was trekking with a group of over 30 youths on Saturday when the tragic incident occurred.

A video also went viral on social media which showed Dhawade purportedly jumping into the water body near the waterfall and trying to climb out, only to slip and be swept away by the water current.

After Dhawade went missing, a search operation was immediately launched, with volunteers from the Shivdurg, a self-help rescue team joining the effort. Dhawade’s body was recovered in Mangaon on Monday, police said.

The authorities have sent the body for autopsy to determine the cause of death. Pankaj Deshmukh, Superintendent of Police, Pune Rural Police, has confirmed the incident.

Meanwhile, the bodies of all five people who had drowned in a waterfall close to Bhushi Dam in Pune’s Lonavala have been recovered, Suhas Jagtap, Senior Police Inspector, Pune Rural Police on Monday said.

The incident occurred at the backside of the Bhushi Dam under a waterfall in Lonavala on June 30 at around 12:30 pm.

“Bodies of all 5 people have been recovered. Search and rescue operation called off, said Suhas Jagtap, Senior Police Inspector, Pune Rural Police said.

The three people whose bodies were recovered on Sunday have been identified as Shahista Ansari (36), Amima Ansari (13) and Umera Ansari (8). (ANI)
