In a startling incident, a massive security breach occurred in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, coinciding with the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack. Intruders jumped into the parliamentary chamber from the visitors’ gallery during the Winter Session proceedings, prompting swift action by authorities.
As the Lok Sabha conducted its session, two protesters were also present outside the House, engaged in vociferous sloganeering. Inside and outside the Parliament, the accused individuals ignited colored smoke canisters, creating a scene of chaos and confusion.
Sansad TV visuals captured the dramatic moment when a man wearing a blue jacket could be seen vaulting over benches within the House. Rajendra Agrawal, presiding over the session, immediately adjourned the proceedings in response to the security breach.
Several Members of Parliament later revealed that the two intruders inside the House were chanting slogans, notably, “Tanashahi nahi chalegi” (Dictatorship will not prevail).
The Delhi Police have identified the two protesters arrested from outside the Parliament as Neelam (42) from Hisar and Amol Shinde (25) from Latur, Maharashtra.
Initial reports indicate that all the accused had concealed smoke canisters within their shoes.
Speaker Om Birla, as the session resumed, said, “The Lok Sabha is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident that occurred during Zero Hour. We have also given necessary instructions to the Delhi Police about this matter. As for our concerns regarding the smoke, based on the initial findings, we have determined that it was just ordinary smoke created for sensation. There is nothing to worry about concerning the smoke as we have conducted an initial investigation.”
Rajendra Agrawal, who was in the chair at the time of the breach, recounted the events, saying, “At first, I thought somebody fell from the balcony. Later, another man also jumped. One of them then took out something from his shoe from which we heard cracker-like sound and smoke started emitting. The security officials then held them.”
