The Maharashtra government has announced a significant increase in the financial assistance provided under the state government’s ‘Kanyadan Yojana’ from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000. The program aims to empower women by providing them with financial assistance for marriage.

It aims to reduce their economic, social, and educational disadvantages.
Benefits for Beneficiary Couples
Under the scheme, the parents of beneficiary couples from Scheduled Caste, Exempted Caste, Nomadic Tribe, Special Backward Class, and Other Backward Class will receive financial help of Rs 20,000. This financial assistance is aimed at easing the financial burden of marriage on low-income families.
Eligibility Criteria

– The groom must be at least 21 years old, and the bride must be at least 18 years old.
– One or both of the bride and groom must belong to Scheduled Caste, Open Caste, Other Backward Class, Nomadic Tribe, or Special Backward Class.
– The grant will only be given on the first marriage of the bride and groom.
– At least ten couples (20 grooms and 20 brides) must carry out the marriage ceremonies in a mass marriage ceremony.
Impact of the Scheme
The increase in financial assistance under the ‘Kanyadan Yojana’ is expected to significantly benefit low-income families, especially in covering the expenses of weddings. This move is in line with the government’s commitment to the welfare of marginalized communities and empowerment of women.
The Maharashtra government’s decision to increase the financial assistance under the ‘Kanyadan Yojana’ will provide much-needed support to low-income families, particularly during the challenging times of marriage expenses. This step is a testament to the government’s commitment to inclusive development and women empowerment.
