A lawsuit has been filed against California State Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil, accusing her of sexually harassing her former chief of staff, Chad Condit. The complaint, lodged in Sacramento Superior Court, details allegations of discrimination and unlawful employment practices. Condit claims the harassment culminated in physical injury, including three herniated discs and a collapsed hip, purportedly sustained during a coerced sexual encounter in a vehicle.
According to the lawsuit, Condit’s relationship with Senator Alvarado-Gil began in 2022 when he joined her staff after an unsuccessful bid for a California assembly seat. The complaint describes a pattern of “grooming,” where Alvarado-Gil shared intimate details of her personal life and drew Condit into a dominant-submissive dynamic. This relationship allegedly evolved to include personal errands and culminated in sexual advances that Condit claims he felt compelled to comply with.
The suit also details allegations of retaliation after Condit resisted further sexual advances. It claims that Alvarado-Gil manipulated administrative processes to his detriment, leading to his termination and significant professional and emotional damages.
Ognian Gavrilov, legal representative for Alvarado-Gil, has dismissed the allegations as unfounded and vowed to contest them vigorously in court. The defense characterizes the lawsuit as “outlandish,” asserting a lack of corroborative evidence to support the claims made by Condit.
The case brings to light serious accusations of misuse of power within political employment contexts, with Condit seeking compensation for lost wages, diminished earning capacity, and emotional distress.
