Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) launched a fierce attack on Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, accusing him of transforming the state into a financial resource center for the Congress party. The allegations came after Revanth Reddy’s name appeared in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) chargesheet linked to the National Herald money laundering case. KTR questioned the silence of senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on this issue and highlighted Revanth Reddy’s frequent visits to Delhi, insinuating possible attempts to evade legal consequences. He demanded that Revanth Reddy resign from his position, similar to the action Congress had sought against Karnataka’s former Chief Minister B.Y. Yediyurappa in 2019 following corruption charges.
KTR Highlights Corruption and Political Hypocrisy
KTR accused Congress of having corruption ingrained in its very DNA, pointing to Revanth Reddy’s alleged involvement in a multi-thousand crore scam, which he claims expanded even before Revanth Reddy assumed office as Chief Minister. He recalled how the ED exposed Revanth Reddy as a “bagman” who influenced donors through political promises, building a corrupt network. KTR also criticized the Congress party’s hypocrisy, noting that while it demanded the resignation of Yediyurappa when accused of corruption, it continues to support Revanth Reddy despite similar allegations. He further claimed that the Chief Minister is sending “sacks of currency” to the national Congress leadership in Delhi, effectively turning Telangana into an ATM for the party.
Warning to Centre and Threat of Legal Action
KTR gave the central government a month’s time to take action against Revanth Reddy, warning that if no steps are taken, he would approach the Governor to seek the Chief Minister’s prosecution. These remarks come shortly after KTR labeled the Congress, led by Mallikarjun Kharge, as “Scamgress” and expressed skepticism over whether the BJP-led Centre would act or pardon Revanth Reddy, referencing previous controversies like the Telangana Civil Supplies scam and the multi-crore Amrut scam. KTR also described Telangana’s governance under Revanth Reddy as riddled with “corruption and commission deals,” emphasizing the depth of the alleged corruption within the state administration.
KTR’s statements intensify the political battle in Telangana, putting Revanth Reddy and the Congress government under increased scrutiny amid ongoing investigations and accusations. The developments reflect deepening tensions as the BRS challenges the ruling party’s integrity and governance in the state.
