Actor Shah Rukh Khan, who recently took a unique approach to marketing for his latest film, Dunki, shared insights in an interview with the MBC Group of Saudi Arabia. He discussed the film and his longstanding association with director Rajkumar Hirani. Shah Rukh revealed that he was originally selected for the leading roles in Munna Bhai MBBS and 3 Idiots, but had to withdraw due to unexpected injuries. These roles, eventually played by Sanjay Dutt and Aamir Khan, significantly boosted their careers.
Why he refused ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’
Explaining the delay in teaming up with Hirani, Shah Rukh mentioned in the interview, “We have been friends for a long time. Hirani, who began as an editor before becoming a director, wrote Munna Bhai MBBS. I vividly recall shooting a death scene for Devdas when he approached me with the script. I agreed to do the film even before hearing the story, attracted by its intriguing title. We planned to work on it for about six to seven months. However, an unforeseen spinal injury and subsequent surgery led to uncertainty about my recovery timeline, preventing me from participating in the project.”
Why He Refused ‘3 Idiots’
After ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’, Shah Rukh Khan talked about ‘3 Idiots’. Explaining why he rejected this movie, he said that he had timing issues during ‘3 Idiots’. A film of mine got delayed and I didn’t do it due to an injury. I told them to finish it. It was a very ambitious project ‘3 Idiots’.
