Ernakulam (Kerala) [India], July 21 (ANI): Ernakulam has reported 11 confirmed and 134 suspected H1NI cases since January 2024.

According to the district medical office press release from Saturday, this year, 134 suspected H1N1 cases and 11 confirmed H1N1 cases have been reported in the Ernakulam district.

The disease has caused three deaths in this period, according to official estimates.

As per the release, if the common cold does not subside within two days and if the fever increases, or if symptoms such as shortness of breath or chest pain are felt, then one should immediately seek specialist treatment at the nearest government hospital.

Delay in seeking treatment can lead to serious illness and even death. The disease is transmitted through the air.

H1N1 is spread to others by the germs that come out of the infected person when the patient sneezes and coughs. The main symptoms of the disease include fever, cough, sore throat, headache, etc.

“A light diet, water, and adequate rest are usually the key to the disease. But in pregnant women, those with kidney, heart, and diabetes-related diseases, and those with other serious diseases, H1N1 infection can be serious and even fatal,” said the release.

At the onset of the disease, expert treatment should be sought from the nearest government hospital.

Precautions against the diseases include covering your mouth and nose with tissue when sneezing or coughing and washing your hands with soap after going outside.

Those with symptoms should avoid going to crowded malls, theatres, etc., and if the fever does not go away within the usual time, or if the fever worsens, you should seek treatment immediately.

Infection during pregnancy can be serious so if symptoms are seen in a pregnant woman, the treatment against H1N1 fever should be started immediately.

Effective medicine against H.1 N.1 fever is available free of charge in all government hospitals.

“Infected people should stay away from school, office, etc. If you have any symptoms, avoid self-medication and consult a doctor,” read the release. (ANI)
