A major cybercrime case has surfaced in Noida where a gang used dating apps to lure victims, rob them, and extort money, raising concerns over online safety and misuse of digital platforms.

Police in Noida have arrested three accused involved in a dating app-based robbery and extortion racket. The gang allegedly created fake profiles on social networking and dating platforms to trap victims, call them for meetings, and then threaten or rob them.
*How the Gang Operated*
According to police investigations, the accused used dating apps to contact individuals and build trust before inviting them to meet at pre-decided locations. Once the victims arrived, they were either taken to isolated areas or surrounded by the gang members, where they were threatened and forced to hand over money or valuables.
In several cases, victims were coerced into making online transactions under pressure. Police said the gang specifically targeted individuals who might hesitate to report the crime due to social stigma or fear of exposure.
Arrests and Recoveries
The three accused were arrested from the Noida area after a complaint was registered. During the operation, police recovered cash, mobile phones, and a vehicle allegedly used in the crimes. Authorities also found fake number plates and other items linked to the criminal activity.
Officials identified one of the accused as the mastermind, with multiple previous criminal cases registered against him. The gang had reportedly been active for several months and had targeted multiple victims during this period.
Scale of the Scam
Investigations suggest that the gang may have targeted dozens of victims using similar methods. Reports indicate that in some cases, more than 50–60 people were trapped through fake profiles on dating platforms.
