Actor and politician Kangana Ranaut has weighed in on the arrest of Allu Arjun, the star of Pushpa 2, following a tragic stampede incident at Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theatre. The stampede, which occurred during a surprise visit by the actor, led to the death of a woman named Revathi, with her son left in a critical condition. In her reaction to the arrest, Ranaut called the incident “very unfortunate” and emphasized the need for accountability for everyone involved.
Speaking in an interview, Ranaut stated that while she is a big supporter of Allu Arjun, it is essential to set an example when it comes to public safety. “Everybody should have accountability,” she said, addressing the issue at hand. She pointed out that just because public figures are high-profile does not exempt them from facing consequences. “People’s lives are very precious,” she added, making it clear that responsibility should be taken, whether it’s related to crowded theatres or even seemingly innocuous events like smoking advertisements. Ranaut’s comments highlight the need for actors and other influential figures to acknowledge their role in ensuring public safety.
Allu Arjun, who had visited the theatre in question, was arrested on Friday morning and taken into judicial custody. The actor was remanded for 14 days by a Hyderabad court, but the Telangana High Court granted him interim bail. However, due to a delay in processing the bail order, Arjun spent the night in jail before being released on Saturday morning.
The arrest has sparked mixed reactions from the film industry. Allu Arjun’s co-star in Pushpa 2, Rashmika Mandanna, expressed her shock and sadness over the arrest, stating on Instagram that it was “disheartening to see everything being blamed on a single individual.” She described the situation as both “unbelievable” and “heartbreaking.” Similarly, filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma questioned whether similar arrests would be made for deaths occurring during religious events or election campaigns, asking, “How will actors and politicians be responsible for safety when it is the police and organizers’ job?”
Several other celebrities also voiced their opinions on the matter. Actor Vivek Oberoi expressed concern over the fairness of arresting Allu Arjun, while actor Nani echoed the sentiment, stating that “one person is not responsible for this.” He pointed out that if the same enthusiasm shown by authorities and media when celebrities are involved were applied to regular citizens, society would be much better. Actor Varun Dhawan also sided with Arjun, asserting that safety protocols are not something an individual actor can manage. He expressed his condolences for the tragic incident but emphasized that it was unjust to place the blame solely on one person.
As the debate over accountability and responsibility continues, it is clear that the incident has raised important questions about the role of public figures in ensuring safety at large gatherings.
