In a significant turn of events, reports of veteran Congress leader Kamal Nath considering a switch to the BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections stir political ripple.
Reports circulating in the media suggest that Kamal Nath, a former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, alongside his son Nakul Nath, is contemplating joining the BJP, marking a decisive departure from his longstanding affiliation with the Congress party.
The speculation gained traction as Kamal Nath arrived in Delhi on Saturday, further fuelling rumors of his potential defection. However, when questioned about the swirling rumors, Nath neither confirmed nor denied the possibility, opting to keep the speculation alive. He remarked, “If there would be any such thing, I would inform you first.”
Addressing the media, Kamal Nath refrained from offering a definitive statement, stating, “It is not about denying, you are saying this, you people are getting excited. I am not getting excited, this side or that side, but if there is any such thing, I would inform you first.”
It is pertinent to note that the speculation was compounded by a social media post from Nath’s former media advisor and BJP spokesperson Narendra Saluja, featuring a photo of Kamal Nath and his son in Bhopal with the caption “Jai Shri Ram.”
Meanwhile, Nakul Nath, a sitting Congress MP from Chhindwara, made a significant alteration to his social media profile by removing the ‘Congress’ affiliation from his bio, adding weight to the growing conjecture.
Despite the mounting speculation, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh expressed skepticism, highlighting Kamal Nath’s historical association with the Nehru-Gandhi family and casting doubt on the likelihood of his departure from the Congress fold.
