Justin Langer, the head coach of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), expressed disappointment following their defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), marking their first-ever loss against the two-time champions.
Justin Langer highlighted several areas where LSG fell short, including dropped catches and conceding too many extras, which he deemed detrimental to their performance.
“In today’s match, we fell short in multiple aspects. We lost crucial wickets consistently and conceded numerous extras, in addition to dropping a couple of catches. It’s disappointing to see us not execute the basics of the game, which we pride ourselves on,” Justin Langer remarked during the post-match press conference.
Justin Langer also scrutinized LSG’s batting unit, attributing their recent losses to batting failures in their last two IPL games. Despite three consecutive wins, LSG faltered against both Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals, posting scores of 161 and 167 respectively.
“Our batting performance has been below par in the last two games, leading to our defeats. While historically, we have been a strong defending team, our batting let us down, affecting our ability to defend effectively,” Langer remarked.
He emphasized the need to address batting shortcomings, particularly in facing spinners, and acknowledged opener KL Rahul’s commendable performance while expressing concern over the team’s inability to capitalize on strong starts.
Regarding debutant Shamar Joseph’s performance, Langer acknowledged the young player’s nerves but commended his spirit and talent, despite conceding runs in the first over of KKR’s innings.
“Shamar Joseph displayed nerves leading into the game, but he possesses remarkable spirit and talent. Despite the initial pressure, he has the potential to excel and improve with each opportunity,” Langer commented on Joseph’s debut performance.
As LSG regroups for future matches, Langer’s insights highlight the areas needing improvement and the team’s determination to bounce back stronger in the IPL.
