1. Brandenburg Gate ( Berlin, Germany )

The Brandenburg Gate, located in Berlin, Germany, was built starting in 1788 and finished in 1798 by order of Frederick William II of Prussia. Named after John Frederick of Brandenburg-Schwedt, it was created to celebrate his becoming Margrave of Brandenburg and to show the start of a new area of the city. It stands as an important symbol and historic site.

 

2. Gateway Of India ( Mumbai, India )

The Gateway of India in Mumbai is a famous landmark built to remember when King George V and Queen Mary visited in 1911. It’s a big arch that marks where they arrived and were welcomed by soldiers. The gateway opens up to a big road, once called King’s Circle, and it stands as a proud piece of India’s history.

 

3. Arc De Triomphe ( Paris, France )

The Arc de Triomphe is a famous monument in Paris, placed in the middle of the Champs-Élysées. Napoleon, a powerful leader, ordered its creation in 1806 to remember the soldiers who died fighting for him. It was built over ancient tombs that used to be there. This arch is a symbol of bravery and history for the people of France.

 

4. Meridian Gate ( Beijing, China )

The Meridian Gate is an old archway on Meridian Hill in Beijing, China. Built during the Ming Dynasty and finished in 1664, it was at the heart of 10 special halls used by Ming emperors for important crowning events. This historical gate is a significant piece of China’s past and was central to royal traditions.

 

5. Puerta De Alcala ( Madrid, Spain )

The Puerta de Alcalá is an old, important gate in Madrid, once part of a wall that wrapped around the city. A man named Alonso Carbonell, who also made the Puerta Cerrada gate, designed it. It’s a piece of Madrid’s history and stands as a reminder of the past when city walls were common.

 

6. Washington Square Arch ( New York City, New York, US )

The Washington Square Arch, standing tall at 106 feet in Manhattan, was created in 1892 to honor George Washington, America’s first president and a national hero. Today, it’s a beloved spot for visitors in New York City.

 

7. Rua Augusta Arch ( Lisbon, Portugal )

The Arco da Rua Augusta, found in Lisbon’s Santa Maria Maior area, is a grand arch built in 1882. It was created to celebrate the 45-year reign of Queen Maria II. This striking monument stands as a tribute to her time as queen and is a significant landmark in the heart of Lisbon, full of historical importance and admired by visitors.

 

8. Cinquantenaire (Brussels, Belgium)

The Cinquantenaire Arch is a famous monument in Brussels, Belgium. It was originally built between 1835 and 1840 to remember the 1830 Belgian Revolution. Sadly, it was ruined by fire in World War I but was later rebuilt in a new spot. This arch stands as a reminder of Belgium’s history and resilience.

 

9. Buland Darwaza (Fatehpur Sikri, India)

The Buland Darwaza, standing tall at 54 meters, is among the world’s largest gates. Emperor Akbar had it built in 1573 to celebrate his win over Gujarat. This grand gate marks the western entry to Fatehpur Sikri’s royal complex, showcasing Akbar’s might and architectural vision.

 

10. Patuxai (Vientiane, Laos)

The Patuxai is a famous landmark in Vientiane, Laos, similar to the Arc de Triomphe. It was built in 1961 when Souvanna Phouma was in charge, in memory of his dad, King Sisavang Vong, who led Laos from 1904 to 1959. This grand monument stands as a tribute to the king’s leadership and the country’s history.
