Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi expressed grave concerns over the potential consequences of Israeli retaliation against Iranian strikes. He warned that such actions could escalate into a devastating regional conflict with far-reaching implications for stability and security.
Safadi emphasized the urgent need to prevent further escalation, highlighting Jordan’s efforts to lobby major powers against actions that could ignite a wider war. Jordan, a staunch ally of the United States, played a crucial role in intercepting most of the Iranian drones and missiles aimed at Israel, with support from American air defenses as well as assistance from the UK and France.
The Foreign Minister urged pressure on Israel to exercise restraint, noting that Iran had indicated it would not escalate further unless provoked. With its proximity to both Syria and Iraq, where Iranian proxy forces operate, Jordan finds itself in a precarious position. Safadi emphasized that Jordan would take necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and prevent the kingdom from becoming a battleground for external conflicts.
He warned against attempts by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to use the confrontation with Iran as a distraction from other regional issues, such as the situation in Gaza. Safadi urged against any moves that could draw major Western powers into a war with Iran, emphasizing the need for diplomatic solutions to de-escalate tensions in the region.
