Japan has revamped its visa process for Indian travelers by implementing eVisas. Here’s a comprehensive overview of the seamless application procedure.
Starting April 1, Indian passport holders can now travel to Japan without the need for a physical visa sticker. Japan has initiated the issuance of eVisas to Indian tourists. The much-anticipated Japan e-Visa program enables applicants to electronically apply for a visa through Japan Visa Application Centres managed by VFS Global. This initiative allows visitors to stay in Japan for up to 90 days for tourism purposes.
Under the updated system, applicants are still required to submit their applications to the Visa Application Centres supervised by VFS Global, maintaining the existing process. However, a significant change lies in the method of visa issuance. Instead of conventional visa stickers affixed to passports, successful applicants will now receive electronic visas.
Upon arrival at the airport, travelers must present a ‘visa issuance notice’ on their mobile devices. It’s imperative to have internet access for this procedure. Any format other than a digital visa issuance notice, including PDFs, photos, screenshots, or printed copies, will not be considered valid.
Eligibility Criteria
Citizens and residents of several countries and regions, including Brazil, Taiwan, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, South Africa, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Cambodia, Saudi Arabia, USA, along with Indian citizens and foreign nationals residing in India, are eligible. Residents of these countries or regions, with exceptions for those exempt from short-term visas, can apply for an eVisa through the Japan e-Visa website.
Application Process
Here’s a step-by-step guide
– Access the official website of the Japan Visa Application Centre managed by VFS Global.
– Choose the “Temporary Visitor Visa” option and review all visa requirements.
– Download, fill out, and print the application form accurately. Prepare photocopies of required documents.
– Schedule an appointment at the Visa Application Centre and submit your application.
– Wait for an email notification regarding the decision collection.
– Track the application progress online. Approved applicants will receive an electronic visa.
– Display the “visa issuance notice” on your device during airport check-in.
Throughout the application process, individuals may be required to attend an interview at the Japanese overseas establishment with jurisdiction over their place of residence.
This streamlined eVisa process aims to enhance travel convenience and accessibility for Indian tourists visiting Japan.
