In a thrilling encounter at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday, Abhishek Sharma’s blistering knock propelled Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to a resounding six-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK), as praised by former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan.
Abhishek Sharma’s exceptional innings of 37 runs off just 12 balls played a pivotal role in SRH securing their second win of the season. His explosive performance earned him the prestigious Player of the Match award, as he showcased a phenomenal batting strike rate of 217.56, the best in IPL 2024 thus far.
Following their defeat to Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, SRH made a strong comeback on their home turf. Pathan, speaking on Star Sports, commended Sharma for his impactful contribution, highlighting its significance in what could have been a challenging chase for SRH.
Pathan emphasized the importance of Sharma’s innings during a critical phase in the match, particularly around the 15th and 16th overs when SRH seemed to be under pressure. He noted that without Sharma’s explosive knock, the outcome of the match could have been much tighter for SRH.
Sharma’s aggressive start provided SRH with the momentum they needed, especially during the power play where they amassed 79 runs in the first six overs. Despite a brief resurgence from CSK, spearheaded by Moeen Ali’s fine spell in the middle overs, SRH maintained their composure and secured victory with 11 balls to spare.
Reflecting on SRH’s middle-order instability during the chase, Pathan suggested that unnecessary panic crept in, leading to questionable decisions such as sending Shahbaz Ahmed up the order. However, Sharma’s outstanding performance ultimately sealed the win for SRH.
Meanwhile, CSK suffered their second consecutive loss of the season and will be eager to bounce back as they prepare to host Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Chepauk on April 8, Monday.
