Health authorities in Rajasthan are investigating a blood bank in Neem Ka Thana district after a pregnant woman died and two others experienced deteriorating health following blood transfusions, officials reported on Monday.
3 pregnant women were admitted to the district hospital in Neem Ka Thana on Sunday for delivery. Their conditions worsened after receiving blood transfusions, prompting medical staff to refer them to hospitals in Jaipur.
Tragically, one woman, Maina Devi (25), passed away at Janana Hospital in Jaipur after delivering a stillborn. Another woman also delivered a stillborn at the hospital. The third woman, Geeta Devi (25), is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Jaipur.
The incident occurred after the women, all suffering from blood deficiency, received blood transfusions from a private blood bank due to unavailability of matching blood groups at the district hospital.
Despite receiving blood of the same groups as recommended by doctors, the women’s conditions deteriorated, raising concerns about the quality of the blood issued by the blood bank.
Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Bhupendra Singh stated that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the adverse reactions to the blood transfusions.
The tragic incident has sparked concerns about the safety and quality of blood transfusions in the region, prompting health authorities to take swift action to address the issue.
Authorities have seized records from the blood bank and are working to ensure the safety of blood transfusions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
