A recent video by social media influencer Divyata Upadhyay sparked widespread attention after she claimed that a Haldi ceremony was being held inside an Agra Metro train. The clip, which went viral on Instagram, showed a section of a metro coach cordoned off with a sparkly yellow curtain at the entrance, leading Divyata Upadhyay to speculate that the train was being rented out for wedding functions.
In the video, she quipped, “Delhi ki metro me bheed hoti hai, humari metro me Haldi hoti hai,” implying that instead of rush hour crowds, Agra Metro had wedding celebrations. She added that during her journey, she noticed a coach seemingly reserved for a Haldi function and suggested that metro authorities might be allowing such bookings. However, she also acknowledged that eatables were reportedly not permitted inside the train.
The video quickly gained traction, amassing over three million views and triggering a mixed response from social media users. While some found the concept amusing, others dismissed it as impractical. Comments ranged from jokes like “Agra not for beginners” to critiques labeling it an “illogical venue.” Some even pointed out the metro’s business-oriented approach, hinting at a possible monetization of such events.
However, the reality was quite different. The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) swiftly issued a clarification, denying the claim that a Haldi ceremony had taken place. In an official statement, UPMRC explained that the event was, in fact, a Basant Panchmi-themed kitty party and that wedding-related functions were strictly prohibited inside the metro. “This is to inform you that this wasn’t a Haldi function, but a private Basant Panchmi themed party. Any kind of wedding festivities are not permitted inside Agra Metro. Any kind of misinformation is discouraged,” the statement read.
Further verification through UPMRC’s Instagram account confirmed the nature of the event. Photos shared by the metro authority showed women dressed in yellow, wearing garlands, and celebrating with yellow balloons and kites, indicative of the Basant Panchmi festival rather than a wedding ritual. The event was organized by the Beautiful Girls Club Agra, a local social group.
While wedding ceremonies remain off-limits, Agra Metro does offer its space for private events. UPMRC has previously promoted the option of booking metro coaches for birthdays, pre-wedding shoots, and family gatherings, inviting people to celebrate their special occasions in a unique setting.
