Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik shared her sentiments ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024, highlighting the profound impact of Olympic participation on athletes and their families. Speaking at the event ‘An Olympic Dream: Sport in India’, Malik emphasized that the journey to the Olympics represents not just personal aspirations but also collective dreams within families.
“An Olympic dream is not just an athlete’s dream; it’s the dream of an entire family. Winning an Olympic medal transforms not only the life of the athlete but also the lives of their family, society, and village. After my medal, significant changes occurred,” Malik expressed.
Reflecting on the broader implications of Olympic success, Malik pointed out the transformative effect on infrastructure and opportunities for aspiring athletes. “The Chhotu Ram Stadium in Rohtak, where I trained, went from having a tin roof to becoming an AC hall. A stadium was even built in my village and named after me. An Olympic medal creates numerous opportunities, especially for children, allowing them to train in better facilities,” she added.
Parth Jindal, Founder of JSW Sports, highlighted the inspirational role of athletes like Malik in shaping India’s sporting landscape. “From the heroes of 2008 to the recent achievements in Tokyo and beyond, athletes like Sakshi Malik ignite dreams and possibilities in their respective sports,” Jindal remarked.
Praising javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra’s groundbreaking achievements, Jindal underscored their significance in broadening India’s sporting horizons. “Neeraj Chopra’s achievements in javelin, previously deemed beyond our genetic capabilities, have paved the way for future champions. This is evident as three Indian men’s javelin throwers prepare for Paris, showcasing our evolving athletic prowess,” he emphasized.
With the Paris Olympics approaching, India aims to surpass its previous medal tally, buoyed by recent successes across various sports. Earlier achievements in the World Para Athletics Championships and chess further underscore India’s growing prowess on the global sporting stage.
As anticipation builds for the multi-sport spectacle beginning July 26, the focus remains on India’s athletes striving to surpass their achievements in Tokyo and bring glory to the nation.
