Double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, making a return after a lengthy injury break, showcased her resilience with a hard-fought victory over Lo Sin Yan Happy, coming through 21-7, 16-21, 21-12. The doubles pair of Ponnappa and Crasto then extended India’s lead with a swift win over the world No. 18 pair from Hong Kong. Ashmita Chaliha sealed the deal, ensuring India’s place in the semifinals with her win over Yeung Sum Yee.
Former national coach Vimal Kumar, accompanying the team, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, highlighting the initial challenges faced due to the drift in the hall but praising the team’s adaptation and eventual dominance.
