Today, an Indian Army contingent embarked on a journey to Seychelles to partake in the Tenth edition of the Joint Military Exercise “LAMITIYE-2024” alongside the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF). Scheduled to take place from March 18th to March 27th, 2024, the exercise marks a significant milestone in the bilateral cooperation between the Indian Army and SDF.
Known as “LAMITIYE,” which translates to “Friendship” in the Creole language, this biennial training event has been a cornerstone of military collaboration between India and Seychelles since its inception in 2001. Comprising 45 personnel each from the GORKHA RIFLES of the Indian Army and SDF, the exercise aims to enhance interoperability in Sub-conventional Operations within a Semi-Urban environment, aligning with Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter on Peacekeeping Operations.
The primary objective of the exercise is to bolster cooperation and interoperability between the participating forces, particularly in the realm of Peacekeeping Operations. By facilitating joint training, planning, and execution of tactical drills, the exercise seeks to neutralize potential threats in Semi-Urban settings while showcasing the utilization of cutting-edge equipment and technology.
Over the course of ten days, the Joint Exercise will encompass a range of activities including Field Training Exercises, combat discussions, lectures, and demonstrations. The culmination of the exercise will feature two days of Validation Exercises, underscoring the practical application of the skills and strategies acquired during the training period.
Moreover, the exercise is poised to significantly enhance mutual understanding and promote jointness between the troops of both armies. It is expected to foster collaborative partnerships and facilitate the exchange of best practices, thereby strengthening the bilateral military relations between India and Seychelles.
