Indian American Congressman Shri Thanedar’s reelection campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives received a significant boost as his primary opponent, Adam Hollier, was disqualified due to inadequate submission of valid voter signatures.
Wayne County Clerk Cathy Garrett announced the disqualification, stating that Adam Hollier failed to meet the mandatory requirement of 1,000 valid voter signatures. Of the 1,553 signatures submitted by Adam Hollier, only 863 were deemed valid, following a challenge by Shri Thanedar, who questioned the authenticity of 575 signatures.
Cathy Garrett’s staff report highlighted numerous discrepancies and indications of forgery among the submitted signatures.
Shri Thanedar, seeking reelection after his 2022 victory, contested Adam Hollier’s nomination process, emphasizing the importance of adhering to election regulations.
Adam Hollier, endorsed by Black Caucus Chair Steven Horsford and former chair Joyce Beatty, expressed disappointment but reserved the right to appeal.
In response, Shri Thanedar welcomed the ruling, emphasizing the importance of upholding election integrity. He expressed confidence in his campaign and vowed to continue addressing the concerns of the 13th Congressional District’s constituents.
The 13th Congressional District, with a black majority, faces an unprecedented absence of black representation in the House of Representatives.
