In a sharp escalation of India’s crackdown on cross-border espionage following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, a man from Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer has been arrested for allegedly leaking sensitive defense information to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Identified as Pathan Khan, the accused reportedly maintained direct contact with ISI operatives and provided classified details about India’s border security arrangements.
The arrest was made on May 1, 2025, after intelligence agencies tracked Pathan Khan’s movements and communication links. Officials revealed that Pathan Khan had first visited Pakistan in 2013 and continued to travel across the border while staying in touch with handlers in Pakistan. His espionage activities included sharing critical data related to military deployments and border infrastructure near the Jaisalmer International Border.
Border villages remain on alert
The arrest has caused unrest in villages near the Indo-Pak border, with locals expressing anger and concern over Pakistan’s continued interference. Many residents have begun constructing bunkers, echoing the spirit of national defense seen during the 1971 war. Arjun Singh, a local, told ANI, “We are prepared to assist our army again. Pakistan should not be allowed to go unchecked.”
Villagers emphasized their support for the Indian Army and demanded strong retaliation against any future provocations. They voiced solidarity with the families affected by the Pahalgam attack and called for zero tolerance toward anyone compromising national security.
Pakistan steps up military activities
Amid these developments, Pakistan has been ramping up military maneuvers along the border. Its armed forces have deployed advanced weaponry, including air defense systems, and are conducting exercises involving F-16 and JF-17 fighter jets.
These actions follow a series of ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border. Indian defense officials have responded firmly, warning of swift retaliation if Pakistan continues its aggressive posture.
The arrest of Pathan Khan has been hailed as a major success for Indian intelligence, underscoring the ongoing threat posed by ISI-backed operatives working within the country. Security agencies remain on high alert, anticipating further attempts to destabilize peace in the region.
