The Asian Para Games 2022 witnessed India’s largest-ever contingent, with 303 athletes, including 191 men and 112 women, showcasing their prowess on the international stage. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing his immense pride, extended heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the athletes, coaches, and the entire support system that contributed to this remarkable feat. He noted that these triumphs serve as a powerful reminder that nothing is impossible for India’s youth.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Piyush Goyal also congratulated the athletes on the significant victory. Taking to X (former Twitter), he said, “Celebrating India’s phenomenal success at the #AsianParaGames with a historical tally of 100 medals. The whole nation salutes the unwavering dedication, talent and passion of our athletes.
India’s Performance at Para Games:
The Indian contingent at the Asian Para Games 2023 has left an indelible mark by clinching a total of 104 medals, consisting of 27 gold, 30 silver, and 47 bronze. This accomplishment surpasses all previous showings by India at the Asian Para Games, making the Hangzhou edition the country’s best outing to date.

A day filled with glory began with a gold medal in the Men’s 400m – T47 event as Dilip Mahadu Gavit clocked an impressive time of 49.48 seconds. This outstanding performance set the stage for India’s exceptional day at the games.
Following this early victory, India continued to shine in the competition. Para-rowers Anita and Narayana Konganapalle secured a silver medal in the PR3 Mixed Doubles Sculls event with a remarkable timing of 8:50.71. Their stellar performance added to India’s growing medal tally and highlighted the versatility and skill of the nation’s para-athletes.
The excellence displayed by India’s para-athletes was further evident in the Men’s Javelin Throw F55 event, where Neeraj Yadav clinched the gold medal with a colossal throw of 33.69 meters, setting a new Para Games record. This marked Neeraj Yadav’s second gold medal in this edition of the Asian Para Games. Additionally, Mahlawat Tek secured the bronze medal with an impressive throw of 30.36 meters, contributing to India’s double podium finish in this event.
