India’s astounding performance at the Asian Para Games shows no signs of slowing down, and on Day 3 of the competition, the nation added more glittering medals to its impressive tally.
Para Javelin Champs Sumit Antil and Pushpendra Singh demonstrated their extraordinary prowess in the Men’s Javelin F64 event, achieving an incredible feat. Sumit Antil seized the gold with a remarkable throw of 73.29 meters, setting new world, Para Asian, and Games records. While, Pushpendra Singh also contributed to India’s medal haul by clinching the bronze with a strong throw of 62.06 meters.
On Day 3, another noteworthy accomplishment came from Narayan Thakur and Bhavina Patel in their respective categories. Showcasing the exceptional speed and strength in the Men’s 200m T35 event, Thakur secured a bronze medal with an impressive time of 29.83 seconds. While TT Sensation Bhavina Patel grabs Bronze in Table Tennis Women’s Singles – Class 4 even, further solidify India’s remarkable presence at the Asian Para Games, where the nation’s athletes continue to shine on the global stage.
It is pertinent to note that the momentum for India began on the very first day of the competition, where the contingent secured a total of 17 medals, showcasing their prowess in various categories, including Para athletics, para canoe, and para club throw, among others.
This exceptional winning streak continued into day 2, with India once again proving its mettle by securing an impressive haul of 17 medals, including 3 gold, 6 silver, and 8 bronze. As a result, India currently stands at the fifth position in the overall medal tally, trailing behind China, Iran, Uzbekistan, and Japan.
Day 2 Highlights:
In the arena of Para Athletics, Indian athletes delivered exceptional performances. The gold medals went to Deepthi Jeevanji in the Women’s 400m-T20 category and Neeraj Yadav in the Men’s Discus Throw-F54/55/56 event. Notably, Yogesh Kathuniya secured a silver medal in the Men’s Discus Throw-F54/55/56 category, while Simran clinched silver in the Women’s 100m-T12. Ajay Kumar added to India’s silver tally with his victory in the Men’s 400m-T64 race. Parmod and Ravi Rongali contributed to the silver haul by excelling in the Men’s 1500m-T46 and Men’s Shot Put-F40 events, respectively.
Bronze medals poured in as well, with Rakesh Bhaira and Muthuraja claiming third place in the Men’s 1500m-T46 and Men’s Discus Throw-F54/55/56 categories, respectively. Ekta Bhyan secured a bronze in the Women’s Club Throw-F32/51 event. Notably, Shankarappa Sharath Makanahalli, despite finishing first in a closely contested Men’s 5000m-T13 Final, did not see his gold medal reflected in India’s official medal tally due to the unique nature of the two-member race.
The sport of Canoe also saw India excel, with Prachi Yadav clinching gold in the Women’s KL2 Final. In Men’s KL3, Manish Kaurav and Gajendra Singh secured bronze medals for their commendable performances.
India’s prowess extended to the shooting range as well, with Rudransh Khandelwal claiming silver in P1 – Men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1, and Manish Narwal and Rubina Francis bagging bronze medals in P1 – Men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 and P2 – Women’s 10m Air Pistol SH1, respectively.
In the powerlifting category, Ashok made India proud by securing a bronze medal in the Men’s -65 kg event.
