In response to a devastating earthquake that struck Nepal’s northwest mountainous region, India has acted swiftly to provide essential aid to its neighboring nation.
On Monday, a second consignment of emergency relief materials, totaling nine tonnes, arrived in earthquake hit Nepal. These supplies are intended to offer vital assistance to families affected by the earthquake. The fresh shipment was transported via a military transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF).
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar underscored India’s commitment to earthquake hit Nepal, stating, “A second flight carrying 9 tonnes worth of emergency relief assistance lands in Nepal. India’s support to Nepal remains strong and steadfast in this difficult hour.”

It is important to note that this second consignment followed the delivery of over 11 tonnes of relief materials from India, which included tents, tarpaulin sheets, blankets, sleeping bags, essential medicines, and medical equipment. This initial aid was presented to Nepal the previous day.

Meanwhile, in a coordinated effort, Deputy Chief of the Indian mission, Prasanna Shrivastava, handed over the second consignment of relief materials to Chief District Officer of Banke, Shravan Kumar Pokhrel.
The consignment of nine tonnes of relief material was transported to Nepalgunj via a special Indian Air Force C-130 aircraft and included crucial medical and hygiene supplies, tents, sleeping bags, and blankets.
The Indian Embassy issued a statement, saying, “This is part of the Government of India’s efforts to support the Government of Nepal in the wake of the earthquake in Jajarkot on November 3, 2023.”
“India continues to remain steadfast in extending all possible support to the Government of Nepal in the aftermath of the Jajarkot earthquake,” the statement emphasized.
About the Nepal Earthquake:
The earthquake, measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale, struck just before midnight on Friday, leaving a path of destruction. Tragically, it claimed the lives of 153 people and left over 250 others injured. The impact was particularly severe in the Jajarkot and Rukum West districts of western Nepal, where around 8,000 houses—both public and private—sustained varying degrees of damage, according to officials.
