In a significant diplomatic endeavor, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, alongside his counterpart Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul of South Korea, co-chaired the 10th India-South Korea Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) in Seoul. The meeting, held today, witnessed comprehensive discussions aimed at further enhancing the multifaceted relationship between the two countries.

Conversations during the JCM covered a wide array of topics, reflecting the expanded scope of bilateral ties between India and South Korea. Key areas of cooperation discussed included defense, science and technology, business and trade, people-to-people exchanges, and cultural cooperation. Both ministers also explored avenues for advancing trilateral cooperation, underscoring their commitment to regional stability and prosperity.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Jaishankar expressed his pleasure at co-chairing the milestone 10th round of the Joint Commission Meeting. He highlighted the significant milestones achieved in bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties 50 years ago, culminating in the elevation of relations to a special strategic partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to South Korea in 2015.
Dr. Jaishankar emphasized the importance of living up to the special strategic partnership and further strengthening bilateral cooperation across various sectors. He noted the steady growth in bilateral exchanges, including trade, investments, defense, and science and technology cooperation. Furthermore, he expressed India’s keen interest in expanding cooperation into new areas such as critical and emerging technologies, semiconductors, green hydrogen, human resource mobility, nuclear cooperation, and supply chain resilience, to ensure that the bilateral relationship remains contemporary and relevant.
Highlighting the growing convergence of views on international issues, Dr. Jaishankar commended South Korea’s focus on the Indo-Pacific region, emphasizing the shared stakes in its stability, security, and prosperity. He expressed optimism and high expectations for the outcomes of the Joint Commission Meeting, emphasizing the enormous goodwill between India and South Korea.
