  • "MCG showdown: India seeks 2-1 lead in series."

The ongoing five-match Test series between India and Australia has reached an exciting stage, with both teams locked at 1-1 after the first three matches. The fourth Test, scheduled to begin on December 26 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), is set to be a Boxing Day Test. Team India will be aiming for a hat-trick of victories in this prestigious match, hoping to take the lead in the series.

The Boxing Day Test, traditionally played on December 26, has been a long-standing fixture for Australia, with the MCG being its regular venue. Over the years, this match has become a celebrated occasion for cricket fans, and India has had a significant presence in the contest. In the past two Australian tours, India has managed to secure impressive victories in the Boxing Day Test, further enhancing the team’s confidence heading into the upcoming clash.

India’s record in recent Boxing Day Tests in Australia is particularly noteworthy. During the 2018-19 tour, under the leadership of Virat Kohli, India clinched a remarkable 137-run victory in Melbourne, marking a historic win. The team’s performance was exceptional, overcoming the challenges posed by the Australian side. On their most recent tour, led by Ajinkya Rahane, India delivered another stunning win in the 2020-21 series. Despite facing a crushing defeat in the first Test at Adelaide, where India was dismissed for just 36 runs in their second innings, the team made a spectacular comeback in Melbourne, winning the Boxing Day Test by eight wickets. These victories have made India’s Boxing Day Test record in Australia particularly impressive.

When examining India’s overall record at the MCG, the statistics reflect a mixed history. India has played a total of 14 Tests at this venue, winning four and losing eight, with two matches ending in a draw. Although India’s overall record at the MCG is not particularly strong, recent performances have shown that the team is capable of competing fiercely on this ground.

With Rohit Sharma now leading the team, India is hoping to build on the success of the previous two tours and improve their overall record in Melbourne. A victory in the upcoming Boxing Day Test would not only give India a 2-1 lead in the series but also provide a significant boost to their confidence as they look to continue their dominance in Australian conditions. The stage is set for another thrilling encounter at one of cricket’s most storied venues, and India will be eager to maintain their winning momentum
