Highlights
  • Devon Conway's fifty steadies New Zealand past 100 runs.
  • India seeks quick breakthroughs as New Zealand builds momentum.

On Day 1 of the second Test between India and New Zealand in Pune, Devon Conway stood strong for the visitors, bringing up his half-century soon after Lunch. Devon Conway’s fifty came off a boundary on the very first delivery after the break, helping New Zealand surpass the 100-run mark as they aimed to establish a solid foundation against India’s bowling attack.

Devon Conway’s knock has been crucial for New Zealand, as he anchored the innings amid some tight bowling from the Indian seamers. Jasprit Bumrah, India’s strike bowler, returned to the attack after Lunch in an attempt to break the partnership and put the pressure back on New Zealand. India, looking to capitalize on the new session, will be eager to take a couple of quick wickets and halt New Zealand’s momentum.

Before Lunch, India’s bowlers kept things tight, with Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav extracting movement from the pitch, creating a few chances but failing to make the crucial breakthroughs. The Indian spinners, including Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, were introduced early to test the New Zealand batters on a wicket that is expected to assist spin as the match progresses. However, Devon Conway’s composure and shot selection kept New Zealand steady, even as India looked to seize control of the game.

Devon Conway, known for his solid technique and ability to build long innings, was the key figure for New Zealand as he navigated through both pace and spin. His partnership with fellow opener Will Young had earlier helped New Zealand see off the initial overs without significant damage. Young, though, fell before Lunch after being trapped LBW by Ravichandran Ashwin, providing India with their only breakthrough of the session.

With Devon Conway leading the charge, New Zealand will now aim to consolidate their position and push for a commanding first-innings score. For India, breaking Devon Conway’s resistance will be crucial if they are to regain control of the contest. Bumrah and Shami, in particular, will be looking to exploit any cracks in New Zealand’s lineup and push the visitors on the back foot.

As the afternoon session progresses, the battle between India’s bowling attack and New Zealand’s middle order promises to intensify, with the visitors looking to build on their solid start, and India eager to strike back with wickets.
