Significance of Akhand Jyoti

It is believed that lighting Akhand Jyoti during Navratri brings the presence of Goddess Durga into the home, promoting peace, happiness, and prosperity. However, it is important to follow certain rules while lighting the Akhand Jyoti. Not adhering to these rules is considered detrimental, and may prevent the devotee from receiving the full blessings. Let’s explore the rules related to lighting Akhand Jyoti.

Chaitra Navratri 2025 Dates

According to the Vedic Panchang, the Pratipada date of the Chaitra month will begin on March 29 at 4:27 PM and will end on March 30 at 12:49 PM. Therefore, Chaitra Navratri 2025 will start on March 30 and end on April 6, with Ram Navami being celebrated on April 6.

The auspicious time for Ghatasthapana on March 30 will be from 6:13 AM to 10:22 AM.
The Abhijit Muhurat will be from 12:01 PM to 12:50 PM, during which Ghatasthapana can be performed.

Rules for Lighting Akhand Jyoti

* The Akhand Jyoti should be kept burning from Pratipada date until the Dashami date.

* The Jyoti should be placed on a bed of barley, rice, or wheat.

* While lighting the Jyoti, the following mantra should be recited: “Karoti Kalyanam, Arogya Dhan Sampadām, Shatru Buddhi Vinashāya, Deepam Jyoti Namostute.”

* It is considered inauspicious if the Akhand Jyoti goes out. Therefore, never leave it unattended.

* Make sure not to use broken rice for the Akhand Jyoti.

What to Do if the Akhand Jyoti Goes Out

If the Akhand Jyoti goes out, it is considered inauspicious. In such a case, seek forgiveness from Goddess Durga. Afterward, light a small lamp near the Akhand Jyoti. This lamp can be used to relight the Akhand Jyoti. If the Jyoti remains lit after the Navratri period, do not extinguish it yourself. Let it burn out on its own.

By following these rules, one can ensure that their Akhand Jyoti remains uninterrupted, allowing the blessings of Goddess Durga to flow freely and ensuring the fulfillment of all wishes during the auspicious period of Chaitra Navratri.
