Update your apps manually
On your iPhone and iPad, apps that you download from the App Store are automatically updated by default. But if there’s an issue, you can update an app manually.
How to manually update apps on your iPhone or iPad
- Open the App Store.
- Tap your profile icon at the top of the screen.
- Scroll to see pending updates and release notes. To update just one app, tap “Update” next to it. To update all, tap “Update All.

How to update apps manually on your Mac
- Launch the App Store.
- On the left side of the screen, click Updates.
- Click Update next to an app to update it individually, or click Update All to update all apps.

How to update apps manually on your Apple Watch
- Launch the App Store application and scroll to the very bottom of the screen.
- Tap on the Account icon.
- Tap on the Updates option.
- To update a specific application, tap on the Update button next to that application. To update all applications simultaneously, tap on the Update All button.

Turn on or turn off automatic updates
If you don’t want your apps to update automatically, you can turn off automatic updates. This way, you’ll get a message from the App Store when there’s an update available for one of your apps.

- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap on the App Store.
- Under Automatic Downloads, toggle the switch next to App Updates to turn it on or off.
- To turn off automatic updates for specific apps, scroll down and tap on the app.
