Many of us love listening to music. It makes us feel good and helps us connect with the world. But, using earphones for a long time can be bad for our ears. Let’s talk about why this happens and how we can keep our ears safe.
1. Too Loud and Too Long

Listening to loud music for many hours can harm the small hair cells in our ears. These cells help us hear. Once they are damaged, they can’t be fixed. This can make us lose our hearing over time. It’s like the hurt in your ears when you are near very loud sounds, like at a concert or a building site.
2. Germs and Ear Infections

Earphones can have germs on them. If we share them with others or don’t clean them, these germs can cause infections in our ears. This can make your ear hurt, become swollen, and sometimes even have fluid come out of it. To stop this, clean your earphones and don’t share them.
3. Earwax Problems

Our ears make wax to keep them safe. Earphones, especially the ones that go inside your ears, can push this wax inside more, causing a block. This can make it hard to hear, cause ringing in your ears, and sometimes hurt. Don’t push your earphones in too deep and clean your ears to avoid this.
4. Ringing in Your Ears

Loud music from earphones can also cause a ringing or buzzing sound in your ears, even when it’s quiet. This is called tinnitus. It can last for a short time or forever, and it can really change how you feel about life.
5. Keeping Ears Safe

To protect our ears, follow the 60/60 rule: listen to music at 60% of the loudest volume for no more than 60 minutes. Take breaks, use earphones that cancel outside noise, and always keep your earphones clean.
By being careful and knowing how to use our earphones right, we can still enjoy our music and keep our ears healthy. Our hearing is very important, and we need to take good care of it.
