Hemant Soren, the leader of the INDIA alliance, is set to take the oath as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand for the fourth time today, Thursday, November 28. This ceremony marks a significant occasion for the opposition bloc, which seeks to showcase its unity and strength. Along with Hemant Soren, one minister each from Congress and RJD is also expected to take the oath. Hemant Soren, who will become the 14th Chief Minister of Jharkhand, is set to continue his leadership of the state following his alliance’s historic win in the recent elections.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place at Ranchi’s Morabadi ground, the same venue where Hemant Soren took his oath on December 29, 2019. Jharkhand’s Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar will administer the oath to Hemant Soren at 4 pm. The event is expected to draw a large crowd, with over 50,000 people anticipated to attend from various parts of the state. Preparations for the ceremony have been underway, with the state’s Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari overseeing the arrangements to ensure a smooth execution. Ranchi’s Deputy Commissioner Varun Ranjan and SSP Chandan Sinha have been tasked with managing the administrative and security measures for the event, emphasizing strict adherence to guest protocols and security guidelines.
The guest list for the event includes several prominent political leaders. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, NCP President Sharad Pawar, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, AAP Convener Arvind Kejriwal, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, and other notable figures such as Shiv Sena-UBT leader Uddhav Thackeray, former Jammu & Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti, and Tamil Nadu Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin are expected to attend. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, whose National People’s Party is part of the NDA, is also slated to be present.
Hemant Soren’s return to power in Jharkhand comes after his alliance achieved a remarkable victory, securing 56 seats in the 81-member assembly. Despite strong opposition from the BJP-led NDA, which won only 24 seats, Hemant Soren’s JMM-led alliance managed to retain power for a second consecutive term. Hemant Soren himself triumphed in the Barhait constituency, defeating BJP’s Gamliyel Hembrom by a significant margin of 39,791 votes. The Congress secured 16 seats, RJD won four, and CPI(ML) bagged two seats in the coalition. The RJD may also receive one ministerial position in the new government.
