Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) experienced moderate to heavy rainfall on Friday morning, leading to waterlogging in various locations. A dense cloud cover over the national capital and neighboring areas resulted in reduced visibility in certain pockets.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘orange’ alert for Delhi, forecasting that the rainfall will persist until July 28. Areas such as Nauroji Nagar, Bhikaji Cama Place, Shanti Path, Ashram, Anand Vihar, and Malai Mandir in Delhi, as well as several locations in Noida, witnessed a fresh bout of rain early in the day.
In a statement posted on X, the IMD noted, “A cloud mass is passing through Delhi. Movement is slow; moderate to intense rainfall may continue for the next two hours.” The heavy downpour prompted the Delhi Traffic Police to issue advisories, recommending commuters avoid Ch. Fateh Singh Marg and the area near Minto Bridge due to waterlogging.
This marks the third consecutive day of rainfall in parts of Delhi and NCR. The IMD also forecasted potential rain in several areas of Western Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
Following the latest rainfall, the Air Quality Index (AQI) for Delhi improved to the “good” category, with a reading of 50, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The weather department also predicted light rain or drizzle in Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Ballabhgarh, Meham (Haryana), Saharanpur, Deoband, Muzaffarnagar, and Sadabad (UP) over the next two hours.
