The Haryana Directorate of School Education has announced a new directive for schools across the state, instructing them to replace the customary morning greeting “good morning” with “jai hind” beginning on Independence Day. This initiative aims to instill a greater sense of patriotism and national pride among students.
The advisory, which has been distributed to all district education officers, principals, and headmasters, emphasizes that the “jai hind” greeting should be used before the national flag is hoisted on Independence Day. The department highlighted that the phrase “jai hind” was first coined by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose during the struggle against British colonial rule and was later adopted by the Indian armed forces. The slogan is recognized for its symbolism of unity and national identity, bridging regional and cultural divides.
The change in greeting is part of a broader effort to foster a deeper sense of national unity and respect for India’s historical heritage among students. The Haryana Directorate of School Education believes that this small shift in daily routine will serve as a constant reminder of students’ identity and their potential contributions to the nation.
By making “jai hind” a standard greeting in schools, the department hopes to cultivate a spirit of respect and belonging, reinforcing the values of unity and patriotism within the educational environment.
